Instructor Workshops

Instructor workshops are designed to provide training and updates to both new and certified instructors for Hunter Education and Advanced Hunter Education Programs. In order to attend a new instructor workshop you must obtain and complete a volunteer instructor application form. To receive an application or for more information on becoming a volunteer instructor please contact Hunter Education Administrator, Megan Wisecup at [email protected]

In order to attend a certified instructor workshop you must already be a certified volunteer instructor. THIS IS NOT A HUNTER EDUCATION CLASS FOR CERTIFICATION.

About the Class

Instructor workshops provide training and updates regarding Hunter Education and Advanced Hunter Education Programs for volunteer instructors. Volunteer instructors once certified are required by administrative rule to attend a certified instructor workshop once every two years in order to maintain their instructor certification.

Both new and certified instructor workshops are typically held annually in March throughout the state. New Instructor workshops are 7-8 hours in length and usually held on Saturdays. Certified Instructor Workshops are 3-4 hours in length and usually held in the evening on weekdays.

Age-Related Information

Instructors must be at least 18 years of age or older to attend. Instructors also must submit to and pass a background check before certification is received.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, and state recommendations, we are cancelling upcoming classes, field days, workshops, and advanced hunter education offerings through June 30. These events are usually held within facilities that are currently closed or prohibiting gatherings of large groups due to the Covid-19. The health and safety of our volunteers, participants, and staff is of utmost importance to us, that is why we have these cancellations.

Due to the cancellation of our in-person hunter education courses, we are recommending the following for hunting this spring:

  • Anyone ages 15 years and younger are able to participate in hunting activities if accompanied by an adult 18 and older who holds a valid hunting permit.
  • Anyone ages 16 – 17 can purchase an apprentice hunting license to hunt alongside an adult 18 and older who holds a valid hunting permit.
  • Anyone ages 18 and older can complete the required hunter education course online. You can access the online course here.

We recognize this is an inconvenience and that it may not be the most desirable option to receive your hunter education certification. If you would like to sign up to be notified of an upcoming course in your area once offerings are allowed to resume, please follow this link.
