North Carolina Boating Education


Overview

Free NASBLA-approved courses are taught by wildlife officers throughout the year. In North Carolina, any person born on or after January 1, 1988 must complete a NASBLA approved boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater on public waterways.

Pre-registration is required for courses.

When will I get my card?

Following completion of the course requirements a Boater Education Card will be sent, typically within 14 days. Pertinent information is recorded into the agency database upon completion.

NOTICE: In an effort to protect public health and reduce overall spread of COVID-19, we have canceled all in-person Boater Education classes from 3/16/2020 to 10/08/2020. If you require certification prior to 10/08, please take our online course at boat-ed.com. If you do not want to take the online course, please check back October 8th, 2020, when the department will reassess resuming in-person classes. We thank you for your understanding.
