Basic Handgun Familiarization
Overview
Are you interested in purchasing a handgun, but have no idea how to handle a what to purchase, nor what you need for your purposes, whether self-defense, hunting, or recreational target shooting, then this is the course for you!
This course of instruction is for the person who has “little or no experience with a handgun”. If you have just purchased a handgun, or would like to purchase one, but have no idea what to purchase, nor what you need for your purposes, be that self-defense, hunting, or recreational target shooting, then this is the course for you! We begin with a thorough safety lecture, and then familiarize you with two basic types of firearms-pistols and revolvers-and teach you how to operate them safely and properly. The basics of how to stand, grip the handgun, use the sights, and manipulate the trigger will be covered in both the lecture portion and on-the-range portion. What causes recoil and methods of mitigating recoil are also covered in both lecture and on-the-range exercises.
Real handguns, ranging in calibers, will be made available for the student to shoot; however most firing range work will be done using .22 caliber semiautomatic pistols and revolvers. (Airsoft pistols can be substituted for firing range work if a lack of ammunition persists.) This class will normally be limited to no more than 10 people, primarily for safety reasons, but also to provide needed one-on-one instructor/student attention. All students must bring their own eye and hearing protection, as well as other personal items that they deem necessary (water, sunscreen, bug spray, etc.)
Students must bring: Eye and Ear Protection, pen, and paper for notes.
Cost: $20 per person
